Text Box:       The Urban Development and Urban Housing Department came into existence in July 1983. The institutions under the department are as follows: · The Gujarat Town Planning and Valuation Department · The Director of Municipalities · Gujarat Municipal Finance Board · Gujarat Housing Board · Gujarat Slum Clearance Cell · Gujarat Urban Development Company limited · Gujarat Urban Development Mission The State government has constituted 8 Municipal Corporations, 6 Urban Development Authorities, 10 Area Development Authorities, out of 159 Municipalities 99 Municipalities are designated as area development authorities as well as 15 Grampanchayts are also designated as area development authorities for planned urban development in the state. The District Urban Development Agencies (DUDA) has been set up at district level in the state.
